Julio Sigurani, Jr., of the Rosenhayn section of Deerfield Township, was convicted on Tuesday, Sept. 19, on eight counts including sexual assault, kidnapping, burglary, terroristic threats and weapons offenses, according to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae.
The charges stem from a sexual assault that occurred on Aug. 13, 2020, in Deerfield.
Sigurani and the victim had previously been in a relationship, the prosecutor said.
Shortly after midnight Sigurani entered the victim’s home, woke her up, threatened her with a hatchet, and forced her to engage in sexual relations, the prosecutor said. He then stayed in the home for over two hours threatening her, breaking her cell phone, and confining her within the home, according to Webb McRae.
The investigation was handled by the New Jersey State Police and the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office. The lead investigator was State Police Detective Christian Guadalupe.
Sentencing is scheduled for Jan.19, 2024.
